However, RoloPress has it’s limitations.  Most notably, is that it was built to be just a Contact Manager. We’ve received lots of requests to integrate RoloPress into other systems, and unfortunately, RoloPress was never designed to do that.  Another issue is that RoloPress is a Theme, which makes it difficult to integrate into other websites.

That’s where Piklist comes in!  It has been designed from the ground up to be an application builder… any application.  And Piklist is a WordPress plugin, so you can use it with any theme.

Piklist is a suite of applications that play nice together.

If you just need a Contact Manager, then install Piklist Contacts.   When your business grows and you want to manage some orders as well, just install Piklist Orders and it will integrate with Piklist Contacts.  Do you want your customers to log into your site, and manage their own user profiles and orders?  Then install Piklist Portal… which of course works with Piklist Contacts and Piklist Orders. Do you see the potential?  Pretty cool!

Piklist and Piklist Contacts will be available in June 2012 as free downloads.  Once Piklist has some mileage on it, we will start to release Piklist applications like Piklist Contacts.  We will also be providing a RoloPress importer so you will be able to export your RoloPress contacts and import them into Piklist CRM if you like.

We will stop supporting and enhancing RoloPress immediately.

  1. RoloPress Import: probably our most requested feature.  You can now import any Outlook CSV file into RoloPress.  We choose Outlook CSV because most contact managers allow you to export in this format.
  2. Google Maps for RoloPress: View a google map of any address in RoloPress. You can see an example on demo.rolopress.com.

ENHANCEMENTS

  • Easier setup.  Just activate a child theme and you’re ready to go!
  • Tags are now supported on the front-end, including inline editing (thanks to Mike Whitfield for contributing this code)
  • Moved over to WordPress settings API.
  • Consolidated settings area for better admin navigation.
  • Two default posts are created automatically: a Contact and a Company.
  • Admin menu to hide contact and companies links has been removed (since this can easily be done with the new menu system)
  • More Hooks have been added:
    • rolopress_after_contact_header (after the contact header data)
    • rolopress_after_company_header (after the company header data)
    • rolopress_after_contact_details (after the contact detail data)
    • rolopress_after_company_details (after the company detail data)
    • rolo_before_note_submit (before the submit button on the notes page)

FIXES

  • “Recent Notes” works better.
  • Phone number / IM field deletion on edit has been fixed.

INSTALLATION

IMPORTANT: To install RoloPress 1.5 it is recommended you delete both RoloPress Core and Default themes from your wp-content/themes directory and upload the new versions.  Download the new themes, unzip them locally and then FTP them to your website. Once installed, you should switch from the RoloPress Default theme to any other theme (not RoloPress Core), and then back to RoloPress Default.  Many of the new features only initiate when the theme is activated.

Well, now you can import your contacts from an Outlook CSV file.  This doesn’t mean you can only move your contacts from Microsoft Outlook… most contact managers allow you export into a variety of formats, including Outlook CSV.

Instructions:

  1. Export your contacts from your current contact manager into an Outlook.csv file.
  2. Install the RoloPress Importer Plugin.
  3. Import your contacts.

Features:

  • Imports Contacts, Companies or both.
  • Supports custom fields, custom taxonomies and notes.
  • Deals with Word-style quotes and other non-standard characters using WordPress’ built-in mechanism (same one that normalizes your input when you write your posts.

  1. Members Only Plugins: WordPress has a lot of members only plugins.  Essentially they can make your site only accessible to people that have a user account.  Here are a few you may want to look at:
    1. Members
    2. WP-members
  2. Password Protect Your Installation: If you have access to cPanel (ask your host), then password protecting your RoloPress folder is probably the best way keep it private.  Log into cPanel, and under the “Security” area choose “Password Protect Directories”.  Make sure you only choose your RoloPress directory, otherwise you might inadvertently make all your sites private.

It’s best to delete the old themes first.

ENHANCEMENTS

  • Default Menu is now automatically generated by the new WordPress drag-n-drop menu system introduced in WP 3.0.
  • Two default posts are created automatically: a Contact and a Company.
  • Admin menu to hide contact and companies links has been removed (since this can easily be done with the new menu system)
  • Automatically remove “Hello world!” post, since it really doesn’t make sense for a RoloPress install.

FIXES

  • “Catchable fatal error” has been fixed. Menu is now automatically generated by the new WordPress menu system.
  • Admin area header and footer colors have been fixed.
