Goodbye RoloPress… Hello Piklist!
When we first conceived RoloPress a few years ago, we never thought it would be as popular as it is today. Apparently, we were not the only ones that wanted better control and more flexibility in a CRM.
However, RoloPress has it’s limitations. Most notably, is that it was built to be just a Contact Manager. We’ve received lots of requests to integrate RoloPress into other systems, and unfortunately, RoloPress was never designed to do that. Another issue is that RoloPress is a Theme, which makes it difficult to integrate into other websites.
That’s where Piklist comes in! It has been designed from the ground up to be an application builder… any application. And Piklist is a WordPress plugin, so you can use it with any theme.
Piklist is a suite of applications that play nice together.
If you just need a Contact Manager, then install Piklist Contacts. When your business grows and you want to manage some orders as well, just install Piklist Orders and it will integrate with Piklist Contacts. Do you want your customers to log into your site, and manage their own user profiles and orders? Then install Piklist Portal… which of course works with Piklist Contacts and Piklist Orders. Do you see the potential? Pretty cool!
Piklist and Piklist Contacts will be available in June 2012 as free downloads. Once Piklist has some mileage on it, we will start to release Piklist applications like Piklist Contacts. We will also be providing a RoloPress importer so you will be able to export your RoloPress contacts and import them into Piklist CRM if you like.
We will stop supporting and enhancing RoloPress immediately.

Rolopress is awesome and just a few little adjustments would make it perfect but I see Piklist is replacing it. Rolopress was really quick and easy to install. piklist on the other hand looks really complicated and there is no instructions on how to do the initial setup and install to get a basic version of Piklist running. The only instructions shows how to install the Plugin, which I’ve done. Is there any instructions anywhere that give a general overview of getting started like Rolopress besides picking choosing which components you want? I just want the same thing as Rolopress at least. If there are instructions that get us that far, I can figure out the rest from there picking and choosing add-ons as we need them. Thanks in advance.
@Daniel– Currently, there is no easy way to have a “RoloPress Type” setup with Piklist. This will be coming in the future, but for right now it’s now available. The purpose of this post was to let you know that we won’t be moving forward with RoloPress, and that all future development will be focused on Piklist. We will strive to make Piklist as easy to setup as RoloPress, and you will also have move power and flexibility than RoloPress could ever offer. Stay tuned, you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for the quick reply. This is great news. I’m really looking forward to seeing the new Piklist. My one conern is I’m hesitant to start customizing with Rolopress if I can’t convert over all my customized fields from Rolopress to Piklist.
I understand Piklist is free, just like Rolopress and so I don’t expect quick results or a high level support, but what you guys are doing is awesome so far. Thank you very much.
@Daniel– Personally, I’m excited to get the PIklist CRM up and running as well. I have a number of RoloPress client sites I would love to convert. Make sure you sign up to get Piklist News via email since that’s how we will be announcing: http://piklist.com/
So, in the end, what do you recommend? Sticking with Rolopress until Picklist is ready, or waiting til then?
I have a tiny problem of timing here, actually. I’m not complaining, but… well, you know what I mean… I’m confused about what to do.
(because Rolo is just so awesome, and FREE!!!! It allows us to lower our costs and to propose more solutions to small businesses which can’t afford pay solutions…) Anyway, thanks in advance.
@egiova– Unfortunately, I don’t have a good answer for you.
